treasure mapDuring the school year most of my students participate in a practice incentive program called “Piano Points” (read more here), but I feel like in the summer we need a change of pace.  Last summer I had a “Super Summer Practice Challenge” to see how many days students could record over the summer.  I’ve been brainstorming what to do for this summer and finally came up with my Summer Practice Treasure Map.  I plan to have the students record practice as usual on their assignment pages and then each week at their lesson we will add a sticker to the map for each day they practice.  Students who reach the finish in the summer will get to choose a prize from my prize basket.  There are 40 spots for stickers.  We have 8 weeks of summer lessons, so if they practice an average of 5 days a week they should get a prize by the end of the summer.  I plan to use this chart alongside the Summer Bingo game that Whitney created, pushing my students to keep up the practice and maybe try some new things for the summer!
