Today I’m adding one more to our list – a preschool rhythm bingo. When I pulled out my other rhythm bingo sets, they were just a bit too hard still for my preschool son. I don’t usually teach preschool students, but I know many of you do so I hope you find this useful too.
For our preschool rhythm bingo, we only used quarter notes, half notes and whole notes. As I’m teaching rhythms to little children, I often just use syllabic counting instead of naming the notes.
- “Ta” for quarter notes
- “Ta-a” for half notes
- “Ta-a-a-a” for whole notes
First we draw the bingo card. Then both the student and I clap while saying the syllabic counting together. After that we both search for the rhythm on our boards. I love to laminate my boards so we can use M&M’s or candy corn. (By the way, have you tried this candy corn? It’s the only type I like! So much better than the regular candy corn!)
I’ve also been using these magnetic chips for bingo with my students. Cleaning up the chips with the magnetic stick is the best part! And some parents really appreciate having less sugar around for their children.
